Kiwi Bible by Chris Grantham

Kiwi BibleChris Grantham, director of Interserve NZ, has published the Kiwi Bible. Released last month in New Zealand it’s starting to get a bit of attention in the press.

David Norton of stuff.co.nz compares the Kiwi Bible with the Cotton Patch Version by Clarence Jordan based in the Southern states of USA. He says “Auckland as Jerusalem might have opened up more possibilities both for humour and for bringing the story home to Kiwis. But New Zealand does get a mention at Pentecost. The good keen saviour tells his lads: “And you know what? You’ll be telling, like, everybody about me and stuff. Right here on the home patch, to the near neighbours, to those across the border, and man, even right down as far as New Zealand - once they’ve got a few permanent residents.”

Tim Watkin, Listener columnist compares the Kiwi Bible with the Aussie and Cockney versions and gives us a fair bit of Grantham’s take on it all, outlining influences from Spike Milligan and Fred Dagg.

Stephen at Greenflame notes an interview with Chris he heard on National Radio. Pity it wasn’t podcast.

(Bits of) The Kiwi Bible gives us the story of Jesus (based on Mark with Christmas bits from Matthew) and “What Jesus friends got up to (first third of Acts). The book is published by Penguin NZ and has its own web site: www.kiwibible.co.nz
