Marmite Advertising Reviewed at Duncans TV
September 16, 2005 – 10:34 pm | by Duncan
I’ve posted on Marmite’s “The Blob” campaign over at Duncan’s TV Adland tonight. The 40 second ad was filmed on the main street of Thames, New Zealand and borrows from Four Square’s iconography. The ad was too scary for some UK viewers and after complaints was moved out of viewing times available to children. I’ve discovered that the Marmite we’re used to here in Australia and in New Zealand is sweeter than the original UK version. Both Marmites pre-date Kraft’s Vegemite.

The UK-style Marmite (made by Unilever) is sold in NZ (and Aus?) under the name “Our Mate”. Packaging apart from the name and having no marmite cooking pot on the label is identical with the UK version. Tastes the same too - mmmmm.
Personally, I can’t stand the NZ marmite - but love both the UK version and Vegemite. (We won’t talk about the horror that is Promite though - ugh!)
