Season of Creation on ABC
This morning and tonight the Season of Creation resource is being featured on ABC’s Religion Report. Listen in at 8 pm tonight or visit the ABC Religion Report web site. The report is available in Real and Windows Media format and can be downloaded as an mp3.
David Busch interviews Norm Habel, myself, Jenny Tymms, Rowena Harris and Harold Kilah. He also features samples of the liturgy being trialled by the Mission Advisory Forum of Queensland Synod. Listen for the voices of Graeme Adsett, Ray Reddicliffe and Rowena Harris.
Eagle’s Child from The Eagle’s Space comments:
“While I applaud the idea some of the liturgy I heard seemed a bit twee. Has anyone any experience or knowledge of this and able to give some grass roots info?”
Basically the Season of Creation is a combination of symbolic and poetic resource for worship. It may seem a little contrived for those who are not comfortable with communal recitation of poetry! To take a look at the liturgies you can download the material at the Seasons of Creation website:

I posted last month at Eagle Space with how the Feast of the Transfiguration might be highlighted in relation to the regeneration and transformation of spring.
Could I also say that we should consider, when referring to Sept 1 as the beginning of spring, that we have adopted a quite eurocentric way of looking at the seasons. As we dwell on an environmentally focussed liturgy, we might do well to consult with the first nations of our land and look at the seasons in our own locales. For instance, when one visits Kakadu the local seasons are explained. One season, for instance, lasts about six weeks and is called the Knock em down winds. This is a more nuanced approach than the usual two seasons of Wet and Dry in the tropics. A greater awareness of & sensitivity to our seasons could help us in our stewardship of the planet.
