Home For Sale On Gold Coast

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

We’ve just entered the housing market again - putting our home on the market. We signed up with the real estate agent on Tuesday morning, had the photographer through on Wednesday lunch time, and the first viewers last night. Today is the day for the 360 degree photography tour.

Take a look at the first online ad for the house here at realestate.com.au.

This photograph is from 5 years ago but it’s still a good indication of what the front of the house looks like.

We decided to move because our property (1400 square metres) is just too much for us. When we first moved here it was great to have the space, the mango, guava, lemon and star fruit trees. There’s something real about having free range chickens. However over time we’ve come to realise that the only time we spend out the back is when we’re mowing lawns, pruning trees and hedges. We don’t have enough water to really garden. And, being a family of geeks, we don’t have the commitment to use every weekend keeping the property looking good. So we’re looking for a smaller property.

Alternative Schoolies on Gold Coast

Monday, November 21st, 2005

High School is out for Year 12s in Queensland. That’s it. No more school ever. And to celebrate there’s a massive collection of parties down the road at Surfers Paradise. Apartments are booked by student syndicates. The City Council put on entertainment on and by the beach. The police are there to keep an eye out for violence, alcohol abuse and sexual assault. The Federal police are there to keep an eye out for terrorists. And a huge number of adult volunteers are there to provide support, including Hotel Chaplains with their red frogs.

My son has joined forces with a few friends to provide an alternative schoolies event, based in family homes, providing their own entertainment. As I was dropping off food at Venue 2 the family had a bit of fun with the name, “Schoolies”.

Down on the Surfers Strip there are:
Schoolies (Year 12s from Queensland and New South Wales)
Toolies (older guys hoping to prey on Schoolie girls)
Foolies (younger students mixing in for the party)

Here’s a few alternatives:
Catholic graduates: Dooleys
Graduate ghosts: Ghoulies
Irish graduates: Hooleys
Irish Catholic graduates: Hooley Dooleys
Law and Order Staff: Poolice
Ground Staff: Moulies

Golfing Ducks on Gold Coast

Friday, November 4th, 2005

On Wednesday I checked out Carrara Golf Course with my long-time friend from New Zealand, Phil King.

It was not a brilliant game from me. I managed to get one hole in 3. You don’t want to know about the others.

The visual highlight of the day was coming across a tribe of ducks at the tenth hole, grazing on the green like a herd of cattle.
